Prince of the moon by Kimberly Loth (English review)

Prince of the moon

"Prince of the Moon" is the second installment of Stella and Sol, written by Kimberly Loth.

The cover: It shows a beautiful two-divided cover of the technological and magical, sophisticated kingdom Stella above with the moon and stars. And below the sunny and warm Stella which emphasize its agriculture and nature.

Symbols: All chapters have beautiful, intricate designs of the moon next to the chapter number.

Map: The book also includes an advanced overview of the kingdom of Stella and Sol and the wall between them (you can use the zoom function for it on the Kindle, which is really helpful and nice when you want to know exactly where Zwaantie and Leo are going during their travels).

The Plot: Zwaantie, the main character, is finally in Stella. But her stay in Stella is so much different than she thought it would be: First it is morning so there are no stars (in Sol it is never dark, so Zwaantie never saw stars or the moon) instead lights floating in the air near her head. Secondly, her lover Phoenix vanished. And third, Zwaantie forgot what happened when she crossed the wall. Besides that, the differences between the two kingdoms couldn't be stronger: Sol only had houses with maximal four floors, whereas Stella has at least apartments with ten till fifteen stories and the buildings in the city are even hundred floors tall. Then the air is warm and humid in Stella, in Sol it was always cold and dry. And everywhere Zwaantie looks are factories and there is actually a clothing district with many shopping opportunities. All buildings are brightly coloured, the streets have a hard surface and there is no real trees or grass in the city (only illusions). Sol in contrast stand for its landscape and its field crops.

(For the reader's understanding nature: Sol has stopped its technical advancement which resembles our middle age, Stella on the other hand is in our era.)

Zwaantie doesn't really know if she likes the artificial beauty of Stella. She likes imperfection and to be normal. In Stella, however it is normal to stand out.

Besides of that, Zwaantie really hoped she could be with Phoenix now after she rescued him from being held as a slave. She hoped for her happily-ever-after.

Zwaantie also doesn't like the understanding of life in Stella. She is used that people work and that everyone is doing their duty. In Stella, it is natural to have hours of leisure and fun, only to work for four to six hours, to use magic all day long to play and to take long naps and meals, go to shows and clubs and to entertain yourself.

Adding to that, appearance is everything and Zwaantie is not used to short skirts and dresses. She likes to be in the background, instead of having the attention of all. So it makes no fun for her that Zwaantie, as future Queen of Prince Leo, needs to be interviewed and that many pics are taken and are posted on the internet. In the kingdom of Stella Twitter is called Ticker and you pay and use a round object, named the disc, which you need for all day activities, like paying, identifying yourself, tell time, etc. And Zwaantie is even more shifted into the public eye because she is the first visitor of Sol in 100 years.

Zwaantie also planned to flee with Phoenix. Anyhow, there are only a few jobs for people who had no magical training because all Stellains learned magic when they were children.
And the worse is Candace, the Lower Queen of Deep sky, Leo's sister, recognize that Zwaantie doesn't love Leo and therefore keeps an angry eye on Zwaantie.

Moreover, Candace is very pregnant and unfortunately it seems that she has to give birth in the night, the only dangerous time in Stella, when the monsters, the vipers which always bring death, are out and about. And not only that, Zwaantie, Candace, Leo and Candace's husband Hunter are on a ship.

Can Zwaantie rescue Candace and her baby?
And what will happen with Zwaantie when she is so far away from home and without the guidance of The Voice (the voice everyone in Sol has to listen to)?
And will Leo will find out about Zwaantie's lover?

Zwaantie will also be aware of a dark secret Leo has - something which will turn her life over for all time.

Five Stars!!

Kind regards,
